This world view shows that we are all attached to the world in many ways. Some ways we do not understand, or even know about, especially as youth. Other ways are very explicit (such as when, and how, you may use the public swimming pool), and behaviour in the army, and what you may teach as a teacher.

Durkheim maintains that we all choose to attach ourselves to society (unless we are crazy) because it is through society that we are affirmed, given choices and achieve some sort of a sense of security in our lives. Society is our culture, and society is our language. Without a language, you are not human because you (can) have no culture.
